Comparison - is it the thief of joy or is it the tool that inspires? If it’s the latter, that’s great but it can be a slippery slope when we start comparing ourselves with others.
Because the truth is - there will always be someone with more of whatever we think we want…. be it money, or beauty, or friends, or youth, or height or….
And on the flip side - there will always be someone with less money, less beauty, less friends. Older. Shorter…
But what is the gift that brings joy… gratitude.
Gratitude for what we have is a much more useful tool than sorrow for what we don’t have.
Finding things we can be grateful for, even in our lowest points, has a snowball effect.
If we can find one thing to be grateful for, we can find another. And another. There’s actually an infinite number of things that we can be grateful for and each time we find one, a wave of joy ripples through our mind and body.
I know it all sounds very cliche these days...just be grateful for what you have....but it really is such a useful tool. I love this Persian proverb that illustrates the point so well.
I wept because I didnt have shoes. Until I met someone that didn't have feet.
When we have what we call baseline happiness, otherwise known as self-referral happiness, our happiness isn’t reliant on any external (and by nature, ever changing) source but comes from within.
Gratitude becomes second nature and comparison becomes less and less relevant.
Gratitude for what you've got. Give it a go next time you're about to launch into comparison and let me know how it goes.
And as for growing that baseline happiness…..the twice daily practice of Vedic Meditation is the best way I know…..
Much love

Grateful that I got to do my initiator training with these 2 amazing humans, Barron Hanson and Blaise DeAngelo and launch our Baseline Happiness project at our buddies RÜFÜS DÜ SOL’s festival in Cabo earlier this year.
And a little on happiness https://www.baselinehappiness.com/happiness101
Comparison - The Thief Of Joy?
Brilliantly said!
