The other day I was chatting to a friend and he was telling me how he feels like his life has been an 8 out of 10 but there’s something that’s stopppng him from getting to 10.
In his career, in his relationships, in his finances - from his perpsepctive, he was able to reach an 8 but never a 10.
For example, he was telling me how he had no problem landing the deal for X amount of $$$ but could never land the deal for XXX amount of $$$.
It was then that I told him about the following Vedic concept espoused by Maharishi.
Do less, accomplish more;
Do least, accomplish most;
Do nothing, accomplish everything.
He understood the first 2 statements (and agreed with them) but couldn’t quite grasp the third.
I explained to him my understanding of what Maharishi meant. When we meditate, we take our mind inwards towards that place of no mantra, no thought - the home of all the laws of nature, the place where nothing but potentiality exists, the place where the unmanifest becomes manifest, from where everything comes into existence, the place where our individualised wave becomes the ocean and it’s from that ocean that all possibilities arise.
My idea for him was that maybe what’s stopping him from getting to that 10 is because he’s assuming responsibility for this role and in so doing, is actually missing the point. Maybe by touching down on the source of all thought, as we do when we meditate, he would surface with a completely different idea of what to do next and perhaps that deal for XXX amount of $$$ that he thought would bring his life to a 10, actually isn’t even in the running for the next thing for him to do.
Anyways - I’m not sure he fully grasped the concept.
I left for home as he was tired and I was starving. I considered my options - Mexican, Thai or leftovers - none of which felt completely charming to me - but they were all the options I could think of. I decided to pull over and meditate.
All of the aforementioned food options went thru my mind as I sat on the side of the road, gently returning each time to my mantra, as and when I remembered to do so.
But what happened was the strangest thing.
As soon as I finished meditating, a fourth option appeared in my awareness - one that hadn’t been there at all either prior to, or during my meditation but yet, felt so charming almost as soon as I opened my eyes. The Israeli place Pita Bu (so good by the way for those in LA.)
I had to call my friend to explain. This is really what Maharishi meant. When we de-excite - things become more clear - things that weren’t even an option, might all of a sudden, become very clearly THE option.
We have to do nothing - to achieve everything - even if everything is picking Israeli food over Mexican. He got it this time.
Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
